Self-seeded Ngaio, Myoporum laetum, National War Memorial Park and Underpass, Wellington (2014)
This tiny Ngaio seedling was found growing at the construction site for the development of the National War Memorial Park and Underpass in Wellington. The seedling was removed, documented and raised in a pot for replanting. It is part of a series of self-seeded, naturally regenerating trees from sites altered by human activity.
The construction site is at the entrance of the former Dominion Museum and National Art Gallery where Nancy Adams, one of New Zealand’s foremost botanists and botanical artists worked from 1959.
